Forest School

Little Bears is one of the few pre-schools in the country to offer Forest School to children from the age of three. Running since Spring 2011, the aim of Forest School is to help and encourage our children to gain a lifelong love and understanding of the natural forest environment, whilst developing confidence and social skills. Whilst some other forms of outdoor education concentrate on team building, challenging activities and competitiveness, Forest School believes in learning and exploring through nurture and developing self-esteem.

Forest School will encourage your children to care for, understand and manage the woods and an integral part of this is giving the children the opportunity to take part in activities outside a normal pre-school environment.  For example, children may occasionally have the opportunity to use hand tools, such as a bow saw and a whittling knife, as well as learning about fire, fire safety and woodland safety.

Children will experience the outdoors in all weathers with the exception of very high winds and thunderstorms and as such we provide waterproof jackets and waterproof trousers. A member of the Little Bears staff is a fully qualified Forest School Leader and currently runs two Forest School sessions per week for our children aged three and over.
